The U.S. Coast Guard uses it for reviews as well. A liftboat is a self-propelled vessel with barge-shaped hulls. They operate in coastal regions and near-shore areas. They are built with three or four legs which are jacked down on location with the hull raised out of the water to serve as a stable platform. These legs have huge pads at the base, allowing them to rest on the seabed without penetrating too much even in soft soils.
